What is branding?
Branding is getting your name out there in the Internet world so that it is recognized by people within your particular niche. Branding is the association of your name with a certain niche. In other words, when someone hears something about learning how to brand YOU they think of Shawna or Joe or Mary who have blogs teaching people how to brand themselves online.
Why brand YOU?
Branding yourself will help you attract people who are interested in your particular niche to your website where you can teach them what it is they want to learn AND you can encourage them to join either a newsletter you produce or to add their name to your list so that you can keep them updated on the subjects they are interested in. This will build your “list” of people who will eventually know, like and trust you and will follow you in anything that you decide to venture into.
A blog is a wonderful way to do this where you can create posts two to three times a week or more to keep your readers interested in what you do and what you want to teach them.
Also important when setting up a blog is having your own domain name (preferably your own name or some variation of it) and then hosting your own domain, rather than using a website such as Blogger.com or WordPress.com. When you host your own blog you have more control over the content and also over the design of your blog.
Video is also important to integrate into your blog. It will help you create more traffic to your website and people also like to “see” who they are learning from. It helps them to get to know, like and trust you.
